2 weeks in LA

27 maart 2019 - East Los Angeles, Californië, Verenigde Staten

Day 8, March 11th

Moving day! Taking a bus from San Jose to the big city of Los Angeles where I will stay for 2 weeks. Starting off with a week in Long Beach. After a good 8 hours in a Greyhound bus I finally arrived in downtown LA where I would take my first Uber ride to my next destination in Long Beach. Arriving at my airbnb while no one was home yet was a bit weird and felt like breaking into someones home (with a key), but it gave me time to settle in a bit. After I went to a supermarket to get some food, the hosts of the airbnb came home and made me feel welcome in their home.

Day 9, March 12th

Because I know nothing in this erea I decided to walk a bit in the neighbourhood and the beach. This took longer than expected and after a good hour of walking I arrived at a lighthouse with the Queen Mary ship in the back. Got a drink at starbucks and went into a hottoppic, which is a clothing store for alternative people, and very famous in the USA. Had some lunch at Jimmy John's and took a bus back to my airbnb, I found out that a bus ride was only 1.25 Dollar! and went to a real grocery store to get some fresh foods for dinner and the upcomming days.

Day 10, March 13th

Because I was still a bit overwhelmed by the city of LA, and I only had seen Long Beach so far, I decided to stay in the erea, had a long talk with the owner of the supermarket not too far from my airbnb, after getting some groceries. Dropped te groceries at my airbnb and walked to a macdonalds, tried the bacon and cheese loaded fries. They are AMAZING! and they should bring them to europe.

Day 11, March 14th

This day I finally went to the aquarium of the pacific. This aquarium was bigger than I expexted. It doesn't look that big from the outside but on the inside they have a lot of animals and even pinguins and otters! Spend a good whole day in the aquarium and had a very late (and read VERY late) lunch at starbucks. In fact so late I only had to eat dessert for dinner back at my airbnb.

Day 12, March 15th

Starting this day of lazy and going to the beach by bus. Sat down at the beach for 2 hours, facetiming my best friend and decided it was time to enjoy something else so went to walk along the coast line and explore what they called the 'rainbow' houses, where I had some icecream (cookiedough!) and bought real beef jerky, which was also amazing. After that it was already getting late so I went back to my airbnb to make some dinner.

Day 13, March 16th

Last full day in long beach! Kinda sad because this erea was really nice, close to the beach and felt really safe. I met up with Jess, a guy that moved from Ohio to Long Beach (LA) and we had some starbucks over a bunch of laughs and talks. Walked around in Long Beach for a bit and then he dropped me back off at my airbnb. Where I after my dinner, did all my laundry to get it all ready and packed up to go to Monterey Park, LA!

Day 14, March 17th

Today is moving day! Took an uber to my new airbnb in Monterey Park, closer to downtown LA, hollywood walk of fame and griffith park. Came walking into this home full with monster dolls, my Host, Erick, made these dolls with his team for series, movies, etc. To make a living out of it. He gave me a house tour and after that I went to get some groceries at Ralphs so I could make dinner and have food for the upcomming days.

Day 15/16, March 18th/19th

Went to the Natural History museum and spend my whole day there till closing time, which is 5 PM. When I came back at my airbnb my host told me they were attending a convention in St louis (Illinois!) and that I would have the whole house to myself for a week. They took most of the monsters that they displayed in the living room with them and left the next day around 3 PM. while I was doing groceries. I didn't do much on day 16.

Day 17, March 20th

Bought coffeecups for the machine so I could wake up with some French Vanilla coffee, which was a great idea. Made myself ready to go to the museum of Deatch, located on Hollywood boulevard, right at the beginning of the hollywood walk of fame. The museum of death sounds horrible to go to but it was pretty interesting and touched up on some cults and mass murders. Since I had just finished watching American horror story; Cult, where they also spoke a lot about previous cults that excisted. Walked a bit of the hollywood walk of fame and took an uber back to my airbnb.

Day 18, March 21st

Woke up really late (around 11.30 AM?) Wanted to go back to the store today to get something to drink since that was almost all out, when it started to pour like crazy. The whole backyard was getting flooded. The rain didn't stop until 3.30 PM and I decided not to go anywhere today. Jess would come later that day to watch a movie and we ended up going to the store together to get me some groceries.

Day 19, March 22nd.

This day was another lazy day. I walked to starbucks to eat and drink something and walked around a bit in the neighbourhood. Enjoying the sun and the company of myself.

Day 20, March 23th

Jess came pick me up around 1 PM (in his stylish Smart) and we went to go explore griffiths park and observatory. The hike up to the observatory took us around 25 minutes, but with only 1 break! The view from the top was worth it and the observatory itself was cool to see. Walked around in the ovservatory for a bit before hiking back down, which took us not more than 15 minutes (if it wasn't 10) and we went to Hollywood boulevard, where the Walk of Fame is located. Bought a real hollywood hard rock cafe t-shirt and did the walk of fame. Which is nothing what people would expect. Busy with a lot of people on the side trying to sell their music and art. After the walk we went to an In 'n Out, a burger fast food place, which was good (what burger isn't?).

Day 21, March 24th

The alarm of the house went off in the middle of the night, luckily my host responded quick so I could turn it off, check the house and go back to bed. The next morning I checked the outside for break ins (Since I couldn't and did not want to enter their bedrooms), luckily there weren't any. This all still got me pretty scared but I only had 1 day to go in this house. So this day I cleaned up the house and made sure everything was packed up again to leave early in the morning to Phoenix, by Flixbus this time!

And these were my 2 lazy weeks in Los Angeles. First a week Long Beach, more on the coast, a bit flat. and a second week in Monterey park (or East Los Angeles), which was eventfull and closer to hollywood! Thanks for reading this blog and have a great week!
